RH Stone Surfaces supplies and installs quartz, granite, marble, quartzite and porcelain worktops and slabs across the North East. Founded in 1950, we are a family-run business with over seven decades of experience in premium stone surfaces, serving homeowners, kitchen designers, retailers and trade customers from our South Shields showroom and fabrication workshop.
Every worktop is templated, fabricated and installed in-house, giving customers a joined-up process from slab selection through to final fit. Full slabs are available to view in person at our South Shields showroom — a much more reliable way to judge background tone, veining and overall scale than choosing from a small sample alone.

Styles & Materials
Our current slab range includes Calacatta, Calacatta Venatino, Carrara, Glacial White, Embers, Alabaster, Caramel, Frost Leathered and Luna Supreme in quartz. Marble options include Cristallo, Emerald, Dolomite and Rosa. Quartzite styles include Taj Mahal, and granite options include Noir Gold.
Whether you are looking for a clean bright white, a soft Carrara-inspired movement, a bold Calacatta statement surface or a dramatic dark granite, full slabs are available to compare in person before committing to a choice. Quartz worktops suit kitchen runs, islands, waterfall ends and breakfast bars. Marble and quartzite are popular for statement surfaces and bathrooms. Granite remains a strong choice for durability and natural character. Porcelain is increasingly chosen for its low maintenance and large-format options.

Our Process
Most customers contact us once their kitchen units are fitted and the project is ready for accurate measuring. From there, we arrange templating, fabricate the worktops in-house at our South Shields workshop and handle the full installation. Having templating, fabrication and fitting under one roof means fewer handoffs and a more controlled result for both domestic and trade customers.

Common Questions
Can I view full slabs before choosing a worktop?
Yes. Our South Shields showroom holds a wide range of full slabs across quartz, granite, marble, quartzite and porcelain. Viewing a full slab gives a much clearer sense of veining, background tone and overall scale than a small sample — particularly important for islands, long runs and waterfall ends.
How quickly can quartz worktops be templated and installed?
Timescales vary depending on the material and where your project is up to, but once kitchen units are fitted and ready for measuring, we can often arrange templating within a few days and move the job forward quickly from there.
Why is seeing a full slab so much better than a small sample?
A full slab gives a far more accurate sense of background tone, veining scale and overall visual impact than a small sample tile. This is particularly important when choosing quartz for longer runs, islands or waterfall ends, where the pattern repeats across a large surface area. Our South Shields showroom holds a wide range of full slabs to compare in person before committing.
Do you cover Newcastle, Sunderland and surrounding areas?
Yes. We supply and install across the North East including Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham, North Shields, Whitley Bay, Gosforth, Jesmond, South Shields, Tynemouth and surrounding areas throughout Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Northumberland.
Is fabrication done in-house?
Yes. All worktops are fabricated at our South Shields workshop. In-house fabrication gives us more control over quality, finish and timescales compared to outsourcing to a third-party cutter — an important factor for trade customers with project deadlines.
